Who are we?
A group of kids of all ages that represents the city of Scottsboro in a very competitive sport.
Age groups: 8 & under, 9&10, 11&12, 13&14, 15 to 18. Groups are divided male and female.
What do we do?
Learn and practice the fundamentals of the four different strokes (with starts and turns) of swimming and apply them competitively in various swim meets as a team throughout the year.
When do we swim?
There are two different seasons and divisions that we compete in. ARPA is our summer league that we compete against teams both in our district and ultimately from the state of Alabama. USA is our winter league that competes at a higher level against teams in the Tri State area leading up to the South Eastern Swim Championship for those who qualify.
ARPA - Mid May through the end of July followed by a Swim Banquet
USA - September 1st through April ending with the Scottsboro Sprint Trophy Meet.
Where do we swim?
We practice year around at the Rec Com at our designated times. During the summer we have some of our meets at home, others are at places like Arab, Guntersville, Hartselle, Decatur, Boaz, Albertville, Fort Payne, and Madison. State swim meet will be wherever the city is who is selected by ARPA. During the winter we travel to places like Chattanooga, Dalton, Ga., Nashville, Auburn, and Huntsville.
Do you have to compete right away?
The answer is no. We are trying to build our team back up to be a Powerhouse that we once were, so we are not going pressure anybody in competing. Although the competitive meets seem to help with the progression of your abilities, it is not required at first.
Requirements
You must be able to swim unaided the length of the pool (25 yards). The rest will come with time and practice.
Why join the Swim Team?
If you want to join a group of kids that take a sport as serious as swimming and enjoy the benefits that come with it, such as physical fitness, team spirit, and becoming a part of a big family then come try it out.
You never know until you try!!!!!
Life Guards are on duty during practice and swim meet.
